what is genre?
Genre: is a style category of art, music, literature, film etc...
Sub-genre: a subdivision of genre of literature, music, film etc...
Hybrid genre: a genre i fiction that blends themes and elements from two or more different genres
Codes and conventions: these are messages or signifiers of genre
Genre tropes: these are the cliche codes and convections and elements of genre that have been over used.
The genre of a certain film can be easing recognised just by looking at poster or a still images fro a scene in the move. this is by looking a key elements of films and what commonly appears in the genre. this includes characters, colours, lightings, costumes, shot types etc...
For example on of my favourite genres is thrillers. The movie Equalizer can be easy recognised as a thriller when looking at the poster. this is as the background colour/ lighting is dim and dark which is the typical of thriller movies. Moreover the gun being held the the character is common within this genre. The main actor in this film is Denzel Washington, he is known for his roles in thriller, action and drama.
I also i enjoy crime/drama. The movie set it off i one of my favourite and the genre can also be easily recognised.
