A genre is a style or category which is recognised by its common set of distinguishing features. A genre can consist of sub-genes which are a subdivision of genres. Sometimes a film will contain hybrid genres meaning that it is usually a fiction based film that blends themes and elements from two or more genres. Other main things to know when looking at genres is genre tropes. Genre Tropes are familiar and repeated symbol, meme, theme or motif. Lastly Codes and Conventions are messages and signifiers of a genre.
Personally my favourite genre is action as there is a lot of tense moments and I feel like you engage with the main character more.
We can tell this film is an action film as there is a burning city behind the character. In addition , he is in the centre of the image therefore making him the hero. Furthermore the character costume is a give away that it's action as he isn't in ordinary clothes.
Personally I really enjoy action films as they appear to take you on a journey that would never occur in your day to day life and they always seem to keep your attention as they're full of drama and action.
The audience can tell that this is a horror as it has a dark background and the character in the centre been covered by their hair. Further more the characters dress is a white dress with black marks (symbolising dirt) which is typically associated with a ghost. Also in the gif , editing is really fast therefore creating tension and horror amongst the audience. I like this genre because it is full of suspense and you never know when something is about to happen making it exciting .
The audience can tell that this is a musical drama ,one of the reasons for this is being, because of the main character who is played by Christina Aguilera who is a well known artist. Furthermore the audience can also tell that this is a musical due to all the sparkles and rimestones on the main heading of the film and all the characters outfit.
Musicals are on of my favourite genres as they are really fun to watch and allow audience participation with all the musical numbers and
Even encouraging the audience , in some occasions ,to participate with the dances.
