What is genre?
I have learnt that genre is a style or category of art or literature.Sub-genre: A subdivision of a genre of literature, music, film etc.
Hybrid genre: A genre in fiction that blends themes and elements from two or more different genres.
Codes&Convections: Divided into two categories- technical and symbolic. Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in media text.
Genre tropes: The use of figurative language in literature, a commonly recurring literacy, motif or cliche.
For example, one of my favourite horror movies the conjuring can easily be recognised as a horror film because it has an abandoned house in the forest which makes the audience know that something scary and bad is going to happen in that house. Also the rope hanging from the tree gives the horror genre away because ropes hanging from a tree is associated with hanging and death. I prefer this because horrors give a a thrill as you don't know what can happen.
